How To Build Functional Survival Packs

When trying to find a survival pack you can either buy one that is ready to use or you can make it yourself. It will not matter which one you have as long as you have one. Survival packs usually mean the difference between death and survival. When choosing to buy a survival pack from a store you have several from which to choose. There are packs already made for the survival of one person or two and four people. These packs can come in big back packs or little fanny packs.

During an emergency you will need certain things to keep your family and your self alive. You will need to be aware that the space for your survival packs is limited so do not make a pack too large, but you will need to be sure you have the essential survival gear. Making a check list is a great way to start on your survival pack.

A survival pack needs to be carried easily so that you will not become tempted to leave it at home because an emergency can happen any where. Be sure that you are mentally prepared for an emergency. You can not put this in the pack but it will be just as important to your survival as everything in the survival pack. It is very important to have survival skills and first aid knowledge. Do the research to ensure you are knowledgeable.

One of the things to consider is if anyone in your family wears glasses or takes prescription medication. If they do it may be a good idea to put an extra pair of glasses and an extra prescription in your survival pack. Some doctors will agree to write an extra prescription to keep stored on case of a disaster if being without this medicine can be life threatening.

You will need to first find a bag that you feel comfortable carrying around with you. You do not want this bag to be too small for all of the essentials or too large that you never take it with you. You need to decide if you want this bag to be waterproof or not. I am going to give you a list of some of the things you should consider adding to your bag. It will be up to you as to what you put in your survival pack.

Having a first aid kit is very important. Some first aid kits can be bought in water proof containers if you buy one that is not you can always store it in a Ziploc bag. Ziploc bags are great for keeping all of your items dry. You should be sure to add gauze, bandages, antibiotic cream, aspirin and a suture kit to your survival pack. Check the first aid kit for these items before you buy them.

You will also want to have a Swiss army knife, sharpening stone, compass, handheld can opener, and flint rod. These are all things that you could possibly need in many different situations. You should also think about adding a snake bite kit and water purification tablets. If you do not want to add the water purification tablets you can boil water for ten minutes to make it safe to drink.

Having a disposable lighter in your survival packs is a smart thing to do. Some people even feel the need to add fishing equipment such as fishing line, hooks, and lures. You will also want to add bottled water, food, and a flashlight. These are all very important. You need to be aware of any expiration dates. You will also need to make survival packs for different situations. If you are going camping make one for that. You should also have a survival pack at home in case of natural disaster. Keeping a survival pack in your car is a good idea too.

When emergency strikes, it’s too late to locate the things you need together. Ensure that you’re prepared for the worst case scenario with survival packs. Never be afraid of being unprepared again!
